Wondering why Google and Wikipedia were blacked out today? They are taking a stand against SOPA! So what is SOPA? It is legislation aiming to let the government censor and control the Internet.
SOPA threatens the freedom which allows capitalism to thrive in America. To place such strict controls on the Internet is no less threatening than placing those controls on freedom of speech as a whole.

It’s Back to School time! Time for new clothes, sneakers…and, for high school students and parents, time to prepare for college. Stuart Baronofsky, Director of Chyten Tutoring Services in Syosset, talks about the differences between the SAT and ACT, two important tests for college admissions. How do you know the best one for your child? Read below to find out all the facts.
The good news is that both the SAT and the ACT are now accepted by the majority of colleges in the US. That means that your child can laser in on one test, thereby streamlining preparation and maximizing potential. As a parent, you can also arm yourself with some basic information about these tests. And if some uncertainty still remains, don’t panic: Chyten-Syosset offers a combination ACT/SAT comparison test which can help your child determine which test to aim for – with actual scores to back up this important decision.

A friend of mine recently told me I had to try Nitalis Grill, a Mediterranean inspired restaurant in Glen Cove. I was curious since I had never seen a similar concept place in Nassau County, so I stopped by tonight to see what it was about. It has an amazing location in the CVS shopping center on Glen Cove Avenue. The restaurant can be described as gourmet fast food. With 6 indoor and 2 outdoor tables, it is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat while running errands or for an exotic but quick and easy meal as a weeknight. The inside dining area is immaculate. They have an open kitchen that was calm and quiet (a rarity in restaurants) and another kitchen area in the back which was also spotless. When I looked at the menu, I could see why friends had recommended it: it covers everything from appetizers, salads, burgers, gyros, kebabs, pita sandwiches, full entrees, a kids’ menu, sides, and dessert! Definitely not your traditional fast food spot.
To help me make my dinner choice I spoke to owner Lisa Markovic. She suggested the Athenian Chicken Pita (once she let me smell the Green Goddess dressing I was sold). Made with grilled chicken, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella in a pita, it sounded light and satisfying. I was definitely not wrong: tender chicken, creamy dressing, perfectly warmed pita-I loved it. The cous cous side dish I ordered was mixed with tomatoes, onions, and herbs and had a refreshing and exotic taste. (more…)
After a busy day of shopping on Route 107 in Hicksville, I decided to give The Original Boulder Creek Steakhouse a try. Located in the same shopping center as Ikea and the Broadway Mall, it has an excellent location and plenty of parking. I expected to find a chain restaurant atmosphere and experience, but I was more than pleasantly surprised at what I found.
When you first walk in, you will notice the friendly host staff greet you with warm smiles. The restaurant is decorated as a Rocky Mountain Lodge that makes you feel like home. In the impeccably clean lobby, you will find a stone fireplace, a homey rocking chair, and a large bar area with televisions to watch your favorite sports teams.
The best part, however, is definitely the food. While many menu items seem like the standard fare you may have had before, the taste was noticeably better than I have ever had. The appetizer menu had many delicious options, so I asked my server what he suggested. He was very knowledgable and curteous and suggested the Boulder Sampler, which includes wings, jumbo potato skins, coconut shrimp, and spinach artichoke dip for the whole table! (more…)
