There are simple ways your company can reduce its carbon footprint and be more energy-efficient, and they go back to the mantra we all learned as children: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. (more…)

One of my favorite holiday activities is driving around, looking at holiday lights. Everyone loves to see the decorations, whether they be simple and elegant or lavish and crazy! What better way to share that holiday cheer than with the 2011 Holiday Lights Contest!
The contest will run from December 1 through December 29, 2011. We’ll post the images of your holiday lights right here on the website as well as on our Facebook page, and the Nassau Happening readers will get to choose their favorite. The photo with the most “likes” on the Nassau Happening Facebook page by 11:59pm on December 29 will be named Nassau Happening’s Best Holiday Lights of Long Island 2011 and be awarded (more…)

The leaves have started to fall and the sweet smell of the holidays is in the air. For more than forty years the First Presbyterian Church of Oyster Bay has kicked off this festive and joyful season with it’s annual Victorian Fair. The fair is a three-day celebration of fellowship, friendship and community sprinkled with Thanksgiving goodies and unique Christmas gifts. Because of it’s growing popularity they have extended hours to include Sunday Nov. 20 from 11:30-2:00 for the gift portion of the fair only.
The fair brings together a special selection of holiday gifts, crafts, fashion jewelry and delicious homemade baked goods. This year they are thrilled to have a great selection of (more…)

Sadly, the summer is coming to an end. We’ve all enjoyed the outdoor parties, BBQ’s, and nights lounging outside. Why wait until next June to do it all over again? It’s not too late to add a few items to your yard, and what better way to extend your outdoor party season than to set up an outdoor fire pit or fireplace. Recently, I visited All Island Mason Supply in Kings Park, and they showed me an array of fireplaces and fire pit ideas. There are finished products right on their property, so you can get an idea for what you may like and what it will look like when completed. I have to admit: I didn’t imagine the full beauty or feel for them until seeing them in person. I think it will completely transform your backyard.
Don’t worry if you think your yard is too small or it may cost too much; this type of project can be scaled to your property and budget. You will be able to enjoy your backyard all year long with these cozy, comfortable and gorgeous additions. (more…)
I think we all know that selling a house, especially in this economy, is not going to happen overnight. However, there are definitely some steps you should take before letting potential buyers see your home. A few little extras will make it seem like it is a brand new place. Kathleen Pisani, Associate Broker and Sales Manager of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, talked to me about her top 10 tips for preparing to sell your home. While some of the steps may cost a few dollars, they are all affordable improvements that will greatly improve your home’s appearance and will be well worth it in the end. As the old saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression! (more…)
