2011 Holiday Lights Contest
One of my favorite holiday activities is driving around, looking at holiday lights. Everyone loves to see the decorations, whether they be simple and elegant or lavish and crazy! What better way to share that holiday cheer than with the 2011 Holiday Lights Contest!
The contest will run from December 1 through December 29, 2011. We’ll post the images of your holiday lights right here on the website as well as on our Facebook page, and the Nassau Happening readers will get to choose their favorite. The photo with the most “likes” on the Nassau Happening Facebook page by 11:59pm on December 29 will be named Nassau Happening’s Best Holiday Lights of Long Island 2011 and be awarded (more…)

It’s the first weekend in November, and the crisp air and fallen leaves are sure signs of two things: Fall fairs and holiday shopping season has officially begun! Friday, November 4
The Farmers Markets are almost gone, so stop by before they close up for good. Today they are open in Hewlett and Glen Cove. For some nighttime fun, head over to Layla’s Dance and Drum Studio for a Salsa and Mambo Dance Class and Party. No experience or partner necessary; attend, learn some steps, and dance the night away! Pumpkin Picking
Elwood Pumpkin Farm
Pick pumpkins in the field, Monday through Friday, 3-6 pm and Saturday and Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. They also have a corn maze and hay rides available.

FW Schmitt Farms
One stop for everything fall fun! Opening September 24, every weekend you can stop by for pumpkin picking, vegetable and food stands, hay rides, and a corn maze. They also have giant slides, a petting zoo, bouncy houses, a playground, photo boards, and fall decorations.

I doubt it, but meet up with new friends and learn about a new culture at 7:30 pm at Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park, Hempstead Turnpike and Stewart Avenue in East Meadow. Fine Art and Craft Show Expo: Shop for watercolors, sculptures, wood, jewelry, lace, pottery, and more art designs at the Walt Whitman Mall, 160 Walt Whitman Road in Huntington from 10 am to 9:30 pm. The fair lasts until Sunday. (more…)

Rhythmology: Feel the Rhythm (and get your significant other to dance!)
It’s a story that may seem familiar to many young boys: they have trouble meeting girls, and their father instructs them that the way to help is to do very well in school or learn to dance. In this story, the young boy decided to do really well in school. When that was not producing the results he wanted, he decided to try his hand at dancing. Joining the Cornell Ballroom Dance team in college, he wasn’t the star at first (“I was very bad” he says), but he stuck with it. Such is the story of Alfred Pena, founder of Rhythmology.
