One of my favorite holiday activities is driving around, looking at holiday lights. Everyone loves to see the decorations, whether they be simple and elegant or lavish and crazy! What better way to share that holiday cheer than with the 2011 Holiday Lights Contest!
The contest will run from December 1 through December 29, 2011. We’ll post the images of your holiday lights right here on the website as well as on our Facebook page, and the Nassau Happening readers will get to choose their favorite. The photo with the most “likes” on the Nassau Happening Facebook page by 11:59pm on December 29 will be named Nassau Happening’s Best Holiday Lights of Long Island 2011 and be awarded (more…)

Thanksgiving 2010, M.A.X. Fitness puts together their Basket Brigade to help local families in need on Thanksgiving.
We are all looking forward to coming to the Thanksgiving table packed with our favorite goodies. For some, that may not happen. Fortunately M.A.X. Fitness members and their families have been raising money for a Basket Brigade to help less fortunate families this Thanksgiving. This Sunday, November 20th, at 2PM, they will be putting together baskets of full Thanksgiving dinners (including the turkey and all the trimmings) to help at least 60 families. They will also personally deliver some of the baskets to people’s homes.
M.A.X. Fitness is asking for donations from any local delis or eateries in the (more…)
For many people, giving a homemade, unique, special gift is the way to go instead of heading to the mall. For others, finding the perfect new decoration or day out with the family is the goal. For everyone, here is your go to list of Holiday Craft Fairs and Gift Shows for Long Island. (more…)
It is officially a heat wave. Doing anything outside for more than a few minutes is out of the question. There is only so long you can stay in your (hopefully!) air conditioned home without going crazy. So what to do and where to go?
Try Sportime, the sports and fitness club chain with 13 locations on Long Island, Westchester, Manhattan, and the Capital Region. Here in Nassau, there are locations in Bethpage, Massapequa, Roslyn, and Syosset. Where else can you exercise and have fun in this heat in a climate-controlled area with a wide variety of activities? While many people may think solely of playing tennis at a Sportime club, that is definitely not the case. (more…)
This past Sunday I attended Polo at the Park at Bethpage State Park. I had never been to a Polo game (as I expect many of us have not) so was not really sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the kind staff, beautiful park grounds, and interesting game that followed. At 2 pm every Sunday, the gates open for you to bring a crowd and enjoy an outdoor picnic. Starting at 3, the polo game starts with the announcer introducing the crowd to all the players, and the ball being thrown in for play. Picture hockey, except with the players on horses…on grass…and V.I.P. tents available. Admission is only $5 per person (there is also an $8 parking fee), but upgrades like field-side parking and VIP tents are also available. Looking for something to do before or after the game? Check out our story on Sunny Day To-Dos, which lists more info on the park and activities you can enjoy there.
