2011 Holiday Lights Contest
One of my favorite holiday activities is driving around, looking at holiday lights. Everyone loves to see the decorations, whether they be simple and elegant or lavish and crazy! What better way to share that holiday cheer than with the 2011 Holiday Lights Contest!
The contest will run from December 1 through December 29, 2011. We’ll post the images of your holiday lights right here on the website as well as on our Facebook page, and the Nassau Happening readers will get to choose their favorite. The photo with the most “likes” on the Nassau Happening Facebook page by 11:59pm on December 29 will be named Nassau Happening’s Best Holiday Lights of Long Island 2011 and be awarded (more…)

2011 Painted Pumpkin and Jack-o-Lantern Contest!
One of my favorite fall activities is pumpkin picking (have you seen our guide of where to go?); being in the field, searching for one that is not too tall, not too short, not too skinny or fat, but just right. Why is my search so specific? Because you need the perfect pumpkin to make…the perfect PAINTED PUMPKIN or JACK-O-LANTERN!
I am happy to announce the 2011 Boulder Creek Steakhouse and Nassau Happening online Jack-o-Lantern/Pumpkin Painting photo contest!! The contest will run from October 3 through October 31, 2011. We’ll post the images of your painted pumpkin or jack-o-lantern right here on the website and the Nassau Happening readers will get to choose their favorite. The jack-o-lantern or painted pumpkin with the most votes on the Nassau Happening website by 11:59pm on October 31 will be named Boulder Creek and Nassau Happening’s Best Pumpkin of Long Island 2011 and be awarded a $50 gift card to Boulder Creek Steakhouse of Hicksville or Brooklyn! Entrants must submit a photo of their jack-o-lantern or painted pumpkin, along with their contact information as required below to contest@nassauhappening.com. All entries must follow official rules and regulations, which are posted below. We will keep adding jack-o-lanterns and painted pumpkins into the running as we receive them. Music Under the Stars and Movies by Moonlight
It’s a beautiful summer night, only re-runs on television, and you’re looking to spend a laid back evening out. Look no further then Music Under the Stars 2011, Oyster Bay’s summer Concert Series featuring various musical groups all summer long. The show locations vary between the town’s parks and beaches, so make sure to check the schedule. Each show is at 8 pm and is completely FREE! Below is a sampling of some of the events. Boulder Creek Steakhouse Impresses a Crowd!
After a busy day of shopping on Route 107 in Hicksville, I decided to give The Original Boulder Creek Steakhouse a try. Located in the same shopping center as Ikea and the Broadway Mall, it has an excellent location and plenty of parking. I expected to find a chain restaurant atmosphere and experience, but I was more than pleasantly surprised at what I found.
When you first walk in, you will notice the friendly host staff greet you with warm smiles. The restaurant is decorated as a Rocky Mountain Lodge that makes you feel like home. In the impeccably clean lobby, you will find a stone fireplace, a homey rocking chair, and a large bar area with televisions to watch your favorite sports teams.
The best part, however, is definitely the food. While many menu items seem like the standard fare you may have had before, the taste was noticeably better than I have ever had. The appetizer menu had many delicious options, so I asked my server what he suggested. He was very knowledgable and curteous and suggested the Boulder Sampler, which includes wings, jumbo potato skins, coconut shrimp, and spinach artichoke dip for the whole table! (more…)
