Love is all around us in many shapes and forms, and this Valentine’s Day a special competition will give local artists and budding artists-to-be a chance to show what love means to them in the way of the time-honored tradition of the Valentine.
“Show the Love Valentine Competition,” sponsored by Think Long Island First, will give entrants the chance to win the heart of an admirer on this special day — and maybe walk away with the grand prize in the contest as well.

One of my favorite holiday activities is driving around, looking at holiday lights. Everyone loves to see the decorations, whether they be simple and elegant or lavish and crazy! What better way to share that holiday cheer than with the 2011 Holiday Lights Contest!
The contest will run from December 1 through December 29, 2011. We’ll post the images of your holiday lights right here on the website as well as on our Facebook page, and the Nassau Happening readers will get to choose their favorite. Ladies and gentlemen: This may be the event that solves the fight of who gets to pick the activity for a night out. With beer and chocolate, everyone is happy. On Wednesday, November 16, the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum teams up with Oyster Bay’s Chocolate Lady for an event to benefit the museum. While many people still so beer as a drink to accompany a good sports game or a good burger, beer can be seen as a perfect match to many different foods and dining contexts. Personally, I can’t think of a better way to hone my taste buds for beer by trying it with my favorite food group, chocolate.

The leaves have started to fall and the sweet smell of the holidays is in the air. The fair is a three-day celebration of fellowship, friendship and community sprinkled with Thanksgiving goodies and unique Christmas gifts. Because of it’s growing popularity they have extended hours to include Sunday Nov. 20 from 11:30-2:00 for the gift portion of the fair only.
The fair brings together a special selection of holiday gifts, crafts, fashion jewelry and delicious homemade baked goods. This year they are thrilled to have a great selection of (more…)

While there are many spots you can intentionally visit to get spooked and scared on Long Island (click here for a list of them), there are several locations you may visit that you may not know have been reported sights of paranormal activity. Here is a list of the top haunted spots on LI:
1. Raynham Hall, Oyster Bay
Originally home to the Townsends of Oyster Bay, this now museum was once a place that housed British troops. Legend has it that British Major John Andre had a conversation in the house trying to convince Benedict Arnold to surrender his troops. People have reported that they have seen his image there. There have also been reports that one particular bedroom is especially chilling, and this was the room that one of his mistresses stayed in. Many say there is a distinct smell of apple and cinnamon in the kitchen, indicating that the spirit is welcoming you into the home. Several photographs taken here also show significant orbs, said to be indicators of spirits caught on film. (more…)
