One of my favorite holiday activities is driving around, looking at holiday lights. Everyone loves to see the decorations, whether they be simple and elegant or lavish and crazy! What better way to share that holiday cheer than with the 2011 Holiday Lights Contest!
The contest will run from December 1 through December 29, 2011. We’ll post the images of your holiday lights right here on the website as well as on our Facebook page, and the Nassau Happening readers will get to choose their favorite. The photo with the most “likes” on the Nassau Happening Facebook page by 11:59pm on December 29 will be named Nassau Happening’s Best Holiday Lights of Long Island 2011 and be awarded (more…)
The fall weather is (hopefully) going to turn soon! This weekend, there are a bunch of happenings to get involved in and welcome in October!
The fall themed festivals and carnivals have begun! The Long Island Fall Festival in Heckscher Park in Huntington is here! Live music, food, vendors, contests, carnival, a beer and wine tent, and much more family fun will be there. There is also the Egyptian Festival in Woodbury, featuring food, movies, lectures, movies, crafts, raffles, prizes, a carnival, and more, including information about the history of the Egyptian culture. The Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington will also hold the Fine Art and Craft Show Expo all weekend long with paintings, sculptures, jewelry, lace, pottery, and other vendors selling homemade items. In Port Washington, the Greek Festival on the Harbor rides, games, music, food, vendors, and fun for the entire family, including fireworks on Saturday night.
It’s Back to School time! Time for new clothes, sneakers…and, for high school students and parents, time to prepare for college. Stuart Baronofsky, Director of Chyten Tutoring Services in Syosset, talks about the differences between the SAT and ACT, two important tests for college admissions. How do you know the best one for your child? Read below to find out all the facts.
The good news is that both the SAT and the ACT are now accepted by the majority of colleges in the US. That means that your child can laser in on one test, thereby streamlining preparation and maximizing potential. As a parent, you can also arm yourself with some basic information about these tests. And if some uncertainty still remains, don’t panic: Chyten-Syosset offers a combination ACT/SAT comparison test which can help your child determine which test to aim for – with actual scores to back up this important decision.
It is officially a heat wave. Doing anything outside for more than a few minutes is out of the question. There is only so long you can stay in your (hopefully!) air conditioned home without going crazy. So what to do and where to go?
Try Sportime, the sports and fitness club chain with 13 locations on Long Island, Westchester, Manhattan, and the Capital Region. Here in Nassau, there are locations in Bethpage, Massapequa, Roslyn, and Syosset. Where else can you exercise and have fun in this heat in a climate-controlled area with a wide variety of activities? While many people may think solely of playing tennis at a Sportime club, that is definitely not the case. (more…)
